What should line up

• Service book & bills — regular intervals, no long gaps, and the big-ticket jobs (timing belt, clutch, major service) actually recorded, not just promised.
• Registration certificate — owner name and count, hypothecation status (any loan closed and NOC on file), and the engine/chassis numbers matching the car.
• Insurance — a live policy, the no-claim bonus story, and no history of a total-loss or major accident claim.
• Number of owners — each transfer should have clean paperwork; more owners means more to reconcile.
